The building
Having a total internal area of 2000 square feet, the building will house a variety of forestry equipment and will function as a workshop in inclement weather.
It is to be constructed from our own timber and other raw materials on site wherever possible. The windows are to be made using second hand UPVC windows (the glass only is to be used, not the white frames). Window frames will be constructed from the same timber as the cladding.
The roof is to be made from larch shingles. This type of roof works best at a steeper angle than most fibre/metal clad structures. It will also incorporate translucent polycarbonate panels to utilise natural light.
The external walls are to be vertically clad with Larch from the woodland.
On the South facing side solar panels will be fitted to part of the roof, to provide electricity.
A rainwater collection system is to be fitted so that the water can be used in the polytunnel, tree nursery and elsewhere.
Because of its appropriate and sustainable use of suitable materials and incorporation of renewable energy, the building will be able to demonstrate to others the viability and practicality of these aspects, all of which are important issues, both within the National Park and elsewhere.
